Sanfrecce fell to a 1-3 defeat at home to Kashiwa Reysol. Although not surprising since Reysol have been strong all season, the result was nevertheless disappointing for fans hoping that Sanfrecce might start to put together a more consistent run of form, especially since the last time this fixture was held (in 2009) it was Sanfrecce who won 4-1. Tadanari LEE scored the goal for the Purple Archers.

Sanfrecce dropped to 7th in J1 after coming from behind to claim a point at the Nissan Stadium in Yokohama.

David MUJIRI got the goal for Sanfrecce in the 88th minute, after coming on as a substitute for TAKAHAGI Yojiro. HYODO Shingo got the goal for F Marinos.

Hiroshima have taken four points from Yokohama in their J1 matches this season, but the F Marinos continue to threaten a top-three finish.

2011-04-03 Results of two training matches: 2-0 @Nagoya, 2-3 vs Kitakyushu

Sanfrecce have announced the results of two training matches, played on 2nd and 3rd April at the Toyota Stadium in Nagoya, and the Yoshida Soccer Park in Hiroshima (Sanfrecce’s training ground).

The first game was played against Nagoya Grampus, and was contested by the first team. The goals were scored by David MUJIRI and SATO Hisato as Sanfrecce won the match 2-0.

Mujiri continues to impress for Sanfrecce, with some Japanese fans now also beginning to appreciate his contributions. GK NISHIKAWA Shusaku and new DF MIZUMOTO Hiroki are also mentioned in Twitter “dispatches”, with DF/MF ISHIKAWA “Nori” Hironori praised for his work-ethic.

Tactically, Sanfrecce tried out defensive midfielder MORISAKI “Kazu” Kazuyuki at right-back, in the absence of MORIWAKI Ryota (to quote some of my Japanese students, “I don’ know!”). After 63 minutes, most of the team was rejigged, and Kazu was moved to the centre of defence (again, I don’t know where Ante TOMIC is in this, but it may be that he is surplus to requirements after all).

The second game was played against J League sophomores Giravanz Kitakyushu (pronounced with a hard G), and was contested by the reserves, along with Sanfrecce Youth 2nd-year student YANAGAWA Koki (who was capped in 2010 for Japan U17, but is too old to travel with the 2011 squad to Mexico). Sanfrecce lost the match 2-3, with OSAKI Junya and HATTORI Kota scoring the goals for the home team.

Sanfrecce have announced the result of their fundraising for Tohoku disaster relief to date.

3/19 match vs Avispa Fukuoka: 1,750,724 yen
3/20 street fundraising: 1,488,092 yen
Collections at V-POINT (Sanfrecce official shop, Kamiya-cho) 250,044 yen
Others: 41,026 yen

Total: 3,529,886 yen.

Sanfrecce have also announced the results of their charity auction, where players auctioned various items (training shoes, match-worn shirts, etc.) on the eV-POINT, Sanfrecce’s online store. This Japanese blog has tracked the items and their final sale price (the author of that blog won a pair of Nakajima’s training shoes). The highest big for a single item was 540,909 yen for an ACL match ball signed by Sanfrecce players.

69 items were auctioned in total, attracting 2,421 bids for a total of 5,849,040 yen.

Therefore the total that Sanfrecce have raised so far is 9,378,906 yen, or 111,500+ US Dollars.

Sanfrecce Youth’s NOTSUDA Gakuto and HIRATA Makoto played the second half for Japan U17, as they again lost during their tour of Mexico, 0-1 to Deportivo Toluca U20.

The match was against the Toluca U20 side after all, although this was not made clear by the JFA before the fact.

The Japan U17 can avoid a whitewash by beating the Mexico U17 side on 3 April.

Sanfrecce Youth pair NOTSUDA Gakuto and HIRATA Makoto both started in the Japan U17 National Team’s 1-2 loss against Cruz Azul U20 at the Cruz Azul Stadium (Estadio Azul).

The result is another disappointing loss for the young Japanese, although obviously they were playing against a team three years their senior.

The U17 tour of Mexico continues with a match on 31 March against Deportivo Toluca’s senior side, followed by another match against Mexico U17 on 3 April.

2011-03-29 Samurai Blue (Japan NT) 2-1 Team As One (J League)

The Japanese national team beat the J League “Team as One” 2-1 at Osaka’s Nagai Stadium.

40,613 were in attendance as they watched 44-year-old Yokohama FC striker “King” Kazu MIURA pull a goal back for the J League side. The Japan NT’s goals were scored by Gamba’s ENDO Yasuhito and Stuttgart’s OKAZAKI Shinji.

There were four current and two ex-Sanfrecce players involved in the match. For the National Team there was GK NISHIKAWA Shusaku, DF MORIWAKI Ryota and FW LEE “Chunson” Tadanari. Ex Purple Archers DFW MAKINO Tomoaki and MF KASHIWAGI Yosuke also appeared.

FW SATO Hisato also started and played for an hour for the J League selection, and looked lively. Makino looked solid at left-back for the NT, while Moriwaki looked more vulnerable, with Kazu breezing past him to score the J League’s goal. Nishikawa also looked uncertain in goal, though he did not concede. Chunson also missed a couple of good chances up front for the NT.

It has been confirmed that the match raised over $800,000 for disaster relief.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima Youth forward NOTSUDA Gakuto appeared as a substitute in the Japan U17 National Team’s 0-1 loss against Mexico U17 at the Hidalgo Stadium (Estadio Hidalgo).

Notsuda was brought on as a 39th minute substitute, replacing Albirex Niigata Youth’s INOUE Jo.

Sanfrecce Youth midfielder HIRATA Makoto is also travelling with the squad, but did not appear in this game.

The U17 team continue their tour of Mexico with a match on 30 March against Cruz Azul U20, 31 March against the senior Toluca team, before another match against Mexico U17 at the Azteca Stadium (Estadio Azteca).
